Volendam – Holland Tour
Volendam is an incredible town in North Holland, 20 km north of Amsterdam. This place is also called as “the pearl of the Zuiderzee”. It is highly popular tourist destination. And I highly recommend this place to be put in one of your important destinations in Holland Tour. Here, you will find many Dutch clichés like wooden shoes and traditional apparents.
Volendam has great distinct besides other towns in Holland. Its isolated location gives the Volendam a very distinct atmosphere. It is the fishermen’s village. It promotes harbor area with many fisher boats. However, the environment can be the focal point of attraction of your traveling activity. It was popular dwelling place for artists. Here you can find out that the town has very unique charcteristics of its different paintings and work of art.
Volendam’s folk costume is one of the best popular clothings in Holland. It is made from some handful people and wear it in daily live. Volendam is also famous for its singers. Some of popular Dutch singers originate from this town.
Volendam has 4 distinct churches that are incredible to watch. The two most popular ones are in the old town centre. The Protestant Stolphoevekerk was built in 1658, making it as the oldest one. This tiny church is still in use. However, most of the time the visitors are not allowed to come in. Other church is St. Vincentius church that was opened in 1860 after strong protests from Roman-Catholic Community. It is open for visitors every weekend.
There is also Volendam Museum. Since Volendam is popular for its paintings art, you will see good deal of art in the museum. Beside you can also see the traditional costumes, cigar activities, ancient house interiors, expositions, and ancient house interiors and folk art.
To satisfy your appetite, there are many restaurants in this town. Most of them are located close to the water side. Have a nice trip!
